Additional Info
The Oakland Youth Vote coalition are co-hosting a student-led Candidate Forum for the November school board election. This event is open to the community and will help voters learn about candidates running in the special election for school board seat in District 5. Youth care deeply and are directly impacted by the decisions made by the school board directors. That’s why in 2020, youth mobilized voters to overwhelmingly pass Measure QQ, granting Oakland youth the right to vote at age 16 in school board elections in 2022. Recently, the Alameda County Board of Supervisors directed the Registrar of Voters to prepare election systems by November 2024 to include 16 and 17-year old voters. Youth leaders have been fighting tirelessly to see the Oakland Youth Vote (OYV) a reality, even when faced with major obstacles that prevented them from voting last fall. Stand in solidarity with Oakland youth leaders by showing up to the student candidate forum on October 12th. Dinner will be provided, doors will open at 5pm. Program begins at 5:30. Interpretation services will be available in Spanish and Cantonese. Please bring your own headphones, limited supply will be available on site. Childcare services available. Please RSVP and indicate if you will need childcare.

Attend an in-person event to ask candidates/elected officials in your area to sign the Patients Over Profits Pledge, and commit to rejecting campaign donations over $200 from the corporate health care industry. You can read more about the pledge at www.patientsoverprofits.org

At this event, you’ll have the opportunity to ask multiple politicians to sign the pledge. We’ll give you all the training and support you need to be successful.

Thanks for joining us in the fight for health care justice.
