Tell MaineHealth: Violence-enabling tech corporations have no place in our hospitals

Palantir is one of the largest A.I. surveillance companies in the world. It has billions in contracts throughout the U.S. government, including with the Pentagon, Department of Defense, and ICE. It also has a contract with MaineHealth, Maine’s largest hospital system.

Despite the scale of the partnership with Palantir, MaineHealth board and executives have repeatedly refused to release details of the contract.

Violence-enabling tech corporations have no place in our hospitals. Nurses and patients demand a healthy society based on care, not cuts and cuffs.

Dear CEO Andy Mueller, MaineHealth Executives, and the MaineHealth Board of Trustees,

For months, nurses and community allies have been demanding that MaineHealth cut ties with Palantir, the notorious A.I. surveillance company founded by billionaire extremists Alex Karp and Peter Thiel.

Meanwhile, Palantir’s technology has helped enable increasingly deadly encounters with immigration officers, including, most recently, the murder of Johan Sebastian Durán Guerrero in Biddeford, Maine. Palantir developed and operates an application used by immigration officers, called ELITE, which identifies people for arrest, using improperly obtained Medicaid data.

MaineHealth should not be contracting with a company that is enabling illegal human rights abuses and authoritarianism. Violence-enabling tech corporations have no place in our hospitals – nurses and patients demand a healthy society based on care, not cuts and cuffs.

I urge you to end your contract with Palantir Technologies today and stand on the right side of history.
