The Workplace Violence Prevention for Health Care and Social Service Workers Act would mandate employers develop and implement a comprehensive workplace violence prevention plan to protect health care and social service workers.
The reintroduction of the bill comes at a time when nurses and hospital staff are facing an epidemic of violence. Just this year, nurses and hospital staff have been violently attacked at UPMC Memorial in Pennsylvania, HCA Florida Palms West Hospital, and HCA Florida Fawcett Hospital. Many more incidents go unreported or are pushed aside by hospital management.
