To Greg Adams, CEO of Kaiser Permanente:

I support nurses’ condemnation of Kaiser Permanente’s plans to send patients home and replace hands-on nursing care with technology.

Your “advanced care at home” program claims to serve patients, but seems little more than a way to shirk your responsibilities as a health care provider, dumping patients at home to save money on their care.

I add my voice to the nurses to demand:

(1) Kaiser must immediately end all so-called "advanced care at home" contracts with groups like Medically Home;
(2) Kaiser must end outsourcing contracts that jeopardize patient safety and violate the nurses’ union contract;
(3) Kaiser must hire additional direct care nurses to staff according to patient acuity; and
(4) Nursing clinical judgment must be the cornerstone of patient care, not biased technologies and algorithms.

It is unacceptable for Kaiser to put profits over patient care. Mr. Adams, Kaiser’s patients deserve safe care and its nurses deserve safe working conditions. Kaiser's program strands patients at home, and diverts desperately needed staffing resources from the hospital.

I join with nurses in calling for you to stop dumping hospital patients at home, to increase hospital staffing, and to end this ill-fated initiative now!
