As nurses, doctors, health care workers, patients, and citizens, we are writing to urge you to reject the sale of Robertson County’s Northcrest Health to HCA Healthcare, the wealthiest hospital corporation in the world. If this sale is allowed to go through, we are confident HCA will continue its anti-competitive business strategy of maximizing profits through market consolidation, raising prices, and cutting vital services.

The proposed transaction is a bad deal for patients, healthcare workers, and communities throughout Tennessee. The sale of Northcrest Health further concentrates the hospital industry in the Nashville metro area into the hands of fewer and fewer providers, raising significant concerns for patients. Studies show that highly consolidated healthcare markets often result in the decline in the quality of care and increasing healthcare prices.

Across the country, HCA is infamous for cutting essential healthcare services in the name of boosting their already lucrative profits, including maternity services, or in some cases all non-emergency services. And right here in Tennessee, HCA is known for outrageous pricing: charging on average $1038 for every $100 spent on care, according to a recent study by National Nurses United. By comparison, NorthCrest Health currently charges an average of $446 for every $100 spent.

We believe it’s clear-- the sale of Northcrest Health to HCA Healthcare is not in the best interest of Tennessee residents. Please reject this sale before HCA is allowed to inflict its profit first agenda on another community.
