RETAIN VA NURSES: Implement the 72/80 plan

Implement the REBOOT Committee’s 72/80 Plan to Retain Nurses for Veteran Care!

90% of VAs nationwide are critically understaffed. Nurses are leaving the bedside due to the Department’s inability to ensure safe staffing. According to the Department’s own literature, one-out-of-three nurses will leave the bedside within the next five years. According to these stats, without implementing a swift and effective recruitment and retention plan, the healthcare needs of our nation’s heroes will be in peril.

National Nurses United has organized and advocated for the Department to implement Alternative Work Schedules to address this critical issue. The internal VA committee that was created to solve the dire recruitment and retention issues that the VA faces, agrees with NNU. This committee has called on the Governance Board to implement the 72/80 retention plan by the end of this fiscal year because they know that our Veterans’ care will not wait. We demand that the Governance Board listen to the Nurses, the Veterans, VA employees and stakeholders who know the value of our Veterans’ care and IMPLEMENT 72/80 NOW!
